Danube River Cruise

We had an uneventful flight other than the crabby flight attendant, Ricardo, who needs to retire.  The Westin Grand Munich is a convention center and very removed from the old city. It seems to be the hub for flight attendants and crews. Adam Martin, from InMunich tours, was waiting for us.  I originally booked him 4 years ago but Covid hit and we have had to reschedule multiple times. Blessedly, we were both still in business. He is a delight.

We jumped on the subway to the old city and spend 4 hours exploring.  Oktoberfest begins on Saturday and apparently there is a huge parade that we will conveniently miss.  Most of Munich was destroyed by the bombings and now has been rebuilt. The highlights for me were the market and the beer hall. One becomes a regular if they show up daily, with the same people for 7 plus years. Then you get your own table and a locker for your stein. That’s serious dedication.

We had about 3 hours sleep, so most of the tour I was in Zombie mode. It did help us to stay awake until 9pm to get on the local time schedule.  The large clock (Glockenspiel) is a tourist must but leaves one underwhelmed. To stay entertained in the hotel, we size up all the different people to see who we think will be on our ship tomorrow. It’s an “Adventure by Disney” river cruise however it's ADULT only!  There will be the expected Disney fanatics, but they provide much fodder.  Some pool time, dinner in the hotel, wine and nighty night.
